Landmark at Ocean View is a dynamic senior housing residence situated in the heart of downtown Beverly. Sunlight streams through the over sized windows in studio, studio alcove, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. Every residence includes a kitchenette, a private bath, and the emergency call system. All residents enjoy a free YMCA membership and can participate in Landmark at Ocean View’s exciting, new Intergenerational Programs. The penthouse boasts a large common area with game tables, a stereo system, a large screen television, and the beautiful Briscoe dining room which, with its large windows offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean.
Landmark’s Ocean View location was originally a building used for education purposes known as the Briscoe Building. The school began construction in 1873 but did not finish until a year later.
The building was used as a grammar school and high school in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Architect Joshua Foster Ober, a Beverly native, used a Venetian Gothic design for the building. According to historical documents, the original building was ornamented with iron cresting and trimmings of Nova Scotia sandstone.
Eventually the historic Briscoe School had to move locations in the 1920’s due to overcrowding.
The building is just steps away from all the picturesque scenery the downtown area has to offer. You can visit many houses of worship, shops, restaurants, a movie theater, a public library, even a Vietnam Veterans Memorial park. Not to mention the YMCA that all Landmark residents have access to.
Landmark at Ocean View opened in 1996 and has been a staple in the local community ever since.
Landmark at Ocean View was the first assisted living facility in Beverly opened under the Landmark name. It was also the facility where the mother of the founder, Cliff Boyle, stayed in the later years of her life.
